Report: Notre Dame lands QB coach

Updated: January 25, 2014 1:10AM

Brian Kelly has again dipped into his past to fill a coaching void.

Former Washington Redskins quarterbacks coach Matt LaFleur has been hired for the same role at Notre Dame, the Washington Post reported.

LaFleur worked on Kelly’s Central Michigan staff from 2004-05 as an offensive assistant coach. He had been with the Redskins since 2010, where he coached Robert Griffin III the past two seasons. LaFleur was an offensive assistant coach with the Houston Texans from 2008-09.

Kelly recently announced the hiring of Brian VanGorder as the team’s defensive coordinator. VanGorder worked with Kelly at Grand Valley State.

LaFleur replaces Chuck Martin, who was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach before becoming the head coach at Miami (Ohio). Kelly plans on calling plays for the Irish in 2014. Mike Denbrock is in line to become the coordinator after serving in that role in an interim basis through the Pinstripe Bowl.
