A girl was found dead in a bedroom of a Mundelein town home after police responded to a 911 call Tuesday morning, officials said.
A suspect was in custody but no charges had been filed, police said late Tuesday.
The Lake County coroner’s office said details would be released on Wednesday after the investigation was completed.
Mundelein Police said they would release more information as the investigation continues.
The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force was assisting the Mundelein Police Department in the investigation at the 1600 block of Woodhaven Court.
Mundelein High, Mechanics Grove Elementary and Carl Sandburg Middle schools were on lockdown early Tuesday as a precaution, police said, but the restriction was lifted by about 9 a.m.
Jenny Laird, director of the nearby Wee Kirk Preschool at Lakes Presbyterian Church, said she and other school officials noticed police activity when school staff arrived about 8:30 a.m.
“Early this morning . . . there were probably around 10 to 12 police cars, and the fire department and maybe the rescue squad,” she said.
Wee Kirk staff called police and were told that — by the time the preschool opened at 9 a.m. — there was no longer any risk or need for a lockdown.
