A Country Club Hills man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife.
Taft Hayden, 47, was taken into custody Sunday after Country Club Hills Police and fire personnel responded to a 911 call from him. The Cook County medical examiner’s office determined that Hayden’s wife, Mary Hayden, 42, died from a severe blow to her head.
Police said Taft Hayden called for an ambulance about 8:17 a.m. Sunday, telling a dispatcher his wife had fallen. Along with the fire department, police were sent to the home because police had previously responded to “numerous” domestic disturbance calls at the home, according to a police news release.
Fire department personnel determined the circumstances were“suspicious,” according to the release, and Taft Hayden was taken into police custody.
The couple had two children — an 8-year-old son and a 11-year-old daughter — according to public records.
