A Lincoln Park man charged in connection with two sexual assaults, including that of an elderly woman, was ordered held without bond in Tuesday.
James Whiteside, 30, of the 600 block of West Deming Place, faces eight felony charges stemming from the two assaults that police and prosecutors say happened last Friday.
One attack was against an elderly woman in a West Side parking lot near the Orange Line station, police said. A separate attack hours earlier involved a woman in the Montclare neighborhood.
On Monday, a Chicago Police officer told Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil that Whiteside was in good condition at St. Bernard Hospital. It’s not clear why he was there, but the judge postponed his bond hearing until Tuesday, when she ordered him held without bond.
Whiteside is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault against a senior, aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon, aggravated kidnapping with a weapon, kidnapping, aggravated armed robbery, aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon.
In the most recent incident about 4:15 p.m. Friday, a 69-year-old woman was getting into her vehicle in a secure parking lot in the 4600 block of West 59th Street after getting off the Orange Line. Whiteside allegedly brandished a handgun and forced her into the vehicle, then sexually assaulted her and stole her money, cell phone and ATM card, police said.
Afterward, police said he drove the victim to various locations and made withdrawals from her bank account before abandoning her and the vehicle on the West Side.
At 2:30 a.m. the same day, police said, Whiteside sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman in the 3100 block of North Harlem.
