Metra UP-North trains delayed by disabled freight train

Updated: December 31, 2013 7:24AM

Three trains on Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest Line were temporarily stopped near northwest suburban Barrington during the morning commute Tuesday because of a disabled freight train.

Trains No. 606, 608 and 610—scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 7:02 a.m., 7:17 a.m. and 7:22 a.m., respectively—were stopped near Barrington Tuesday morning, according to a service alert posted on Metra’s website at 6:40 a.m.

The freight train and all three Metra trains were moving again as of 6:50 a.m., Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

The trains were delayed up to 50 minutes, Miller said.
