Students Super-Bowled over on Bears this week

January 30, 2007

Schools have jumped on the Bears Super Bowl bandwagon in a super way.

Take Libertyville High School, for example.

Students and staff are participating a spirit-filled week in honor of the Bears playing in the Super Bowl.

On Monday, students and staff submitted their top 10 reasons "Why the Bears are going to win Super Bowl XLI." The 10 best reasons will be consolidated into one list. In support of the few, but faithful Packer fans, the school also will have a top-10 list opportunity on "Excuses why the Packers did not make it to Super Bowl XLI."

Today is Create Your Own Newspaper Headline Day, such as these post-game headlines might read: "Bears maul Colts" or "Bears manhandle Manning." The best headlines will be read over the public address system on Friday.

Wednesday is Bring a Bear to School Day when Teddy bears or a Chicago Bear stuffed animal will be allowed at the school.

Thursday is Paint Your Face Blue and Orange Day with face-painting stations available in the cafeteria.

Friday is both Wear Your Bears Attire Day and Bears' Football Tailgate Food Day. A special table will be set out during the lunch periods, just like at a Bears game, where students and staff can buy a Bears football-style lunch. The menu will include chili dogs, big pretzels, sauerkraut, nachos and cheese, hamburgers and popcorn in addition to regular cafeteria food choices.

Greenwood School in Waukegan is holding a Super Bowl party Friday with this week dedicated to Bears trivia, announcements, games and contests.

"This is a fun experience for my class, and we are incorporating the Bears achieving their goals to our students achieving goals they have set for the third quarter," said third-grade teacher Jackie Bucher.
