Cubs pitcher Matt Garza has been traded to the Rangers, a team source has confirmed.
Rangers third baseman Mike Olt and pitchers Justin Grimm and C.J. Edwards are included in the trade, along with two players to be named later.
The deal was close to completion on Friday before the Cubs slowed down the process after a review of medical reports.
Chris Rusin was called up from Iowa to replace Garza in the starting lineup for tonight’s game against the Diamondbacks.
The right-handed Grimm, 24, is 7-7 in 17 starts this season with a 6.37 ERA.
Olt was hitting .213 in the Pacific Coast League with 11 home runs and 32 RBI. He also has four hits in 12 at-bats with the Rangers this season. The 24-year-old is rated the top prospect in the Rangers organization.
Edwards was drafted in the 48th round, but has moved up rapidly. The 6-2, 155-pound right hander in 8-2 in 18 starts with Class A Hickory and has struck out 122 hitters in 93.1 innings.
