Ex-Fire coach Frank Klopas lands job with Montreal

After leaving the Fire on Oct. 30, Mather graduate Frank Klopas was hired Wednesday as head coach and director of player personnel of the Montreal Impact, signing a three-year contract. Klopas, 47, is replacing Marco Schallibaum, who led the Impact to a 14-13-7 record this year and a first-round playoff exit.

In parts of three seasons with the Fire, Klopas went 39-29-23 and coached them to the final of the 2011 U.S. Open Cup, and the MLS playoffs in 2012. This year, Klopas led the Fire to the same 14-13-7 record as Montreal, but they missed the postseason because of goal differential.
