Win big at Dempster’s Casino Night

Want a sure thing? The Dempster Family Foundation’s second annual Casino Night will be held Wednesday at the Palmer House Hilton. Scheduled guests for the fund-raiser include Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster, teammates and manager Mike Quade, Bears defensive end Israel Idonije, former Bears lineman Steve McMichael and Bulls legend Bob Love, among others. The event will feature live and silent auctions, and food and drink. Tickets are available at dempsterfamilyfoundation.org.

† As part of a promotion for Pepsi Max, Carlos Pena will sign autographs and pose for photos from noon to 2 p.m. today at the Jewel store at 5343 N. Broadway. The soft-drink company will have balloting through Aug. 31 for an 11-player dream team at mlb.com/pepsimax, with the prize being the chance to play against the dream team. Among the players on the ballot are former Cubs Ryne Sandberg, Greg Maddux and Dennis Eckersley and former White Sox Harold Baines, Carlton Fisk, Goose Gossage (OK, he also pitched for the Cubs, among others) and Frank Thomas.

† Bulls guard Kyle Korver will autograph T-shirts from noon to 1 p.m. today at Block 37, 108 N. State St. (in the pedway area on the lower floor) to promote Seer Outfitters, the T-shirt line that he and his brother Klayton created.
