For those who can’t make it to the opening ceremonies of the Blackhawks Convention on Friday (and if you don’t have tickets for the sold-out event, forget it), Comcast SportsNet will show the festivities beginning at 5 p.m. Included will be player introductions, singing of the national anthem, a video montage and more.
◆ Also Friday for Hawks fans, tickets to the fourth annual Blackhawks Training Camp Festival will go on sale at 10 a.m. Buy tickets ($5 each) at ChicagoBlackhawks.com, Ticketmaster locations or by calling (800) 745-3000. The festival will be held Sept. 17 at the United Center, with the first 10,000 fans to arrive receiving a Patrick Sharp bobblehead.
◆ Balmoral Park in Crete will randomly give away 500 T-shirts during the harness races Saturday as part of a ‘‘Back to the Track’’ United States Trotting Association promotion. There also will be a free raffle, with the grand prize being a trip for two to the ‘‘Little Brown Jug’’ in Columbus, Ohio. Runner-up prizes include a $50 betting voucher and Miller and Balmoral Park merchandise.
◆ Wheaton native and Notre Dame grad Mike Lee improved his pro boxing record to 6-0 with a third-round TKO against Michael Birthmark on Saturday in Carson, Calif. The light heavyweight is scheduled for a Sept. 16 bout at Notre Dame’s Joyce Convocation Center. It will be the first pro fight at that venue.
