The National Pro Fastpitch Bandits will have a new pitcher in the circle for their game Thursday at Rosemont Stadium: Carlos Zambrano.
The Cubs right-hander is scheduled to deliver the first pitch before the Bandits’ game against the NPF Diamonds at 7:30 p.m.
Most responsible for Zambrano’s appearance is Bandits center fielder Caitlin Lever.
How did she lure him to a softball game on the eve of another Cubs-White Sox series?
Twitter.
‘‘@CaitlinLever’’ actually received a tweet from a Zambrano assistant about the concept. A few tweets later, and Zambrano was penciled in for first-pitch duties.
‘‘It’s pretty amazing,’’ Lever told Quick Hits on Tuesday.
So maybe a little BP for Big Z?
‘‘I hope so,’’ Lever said of batting practice. ‘‘He’s a pretty good hitter for a pitcher, so we’ll take some notes.’’
And the next trick is for the Bandits to toss out a first pitch at Wrigley Field.
‘‘That’s what I’m saying,’’ Lever said. ‘‘Return the favor.’’
