Cody Muehlfelt bagged his 12-pointer with double-brow tines at 4:30 p.m. on opening day of Illinois’ first firearm season on Nov. 18 in Grundy County. The 16-year-old from Wheaton made a long-range shot with a 12-gauge Remington 1187 shotgun with Federal Barnes expander tipped slugs (1900 fps).
“Cody has been hunting with his father, Gary, since he was 11-years old,’’ his mother, Fiona, e-mailed. “This is his fifth buck, so far. Last year he didn’t get one.’’
Illinois’ second firearm season is Thursday through Sunday.
