We celebrate young fishermen and old salmon, north and south, with these Fish of the Week.

South suburban youth Jake Thomas caught his 38-inch, 18-pound king on a noodle rod while trolling a Hot ’N Tot crankbait in 15 feet of water outside the mouth of Burns Ditch in Indiana about 11 p.m. Saturday.

“Jake fought the fish for about 20 minutes and nearly got spooled,’’ e-mailed Capt. Austin Adduci of Grab Your Fly Charters. ‘‘We had to chase this fish down just to gain line back.’’

On Sunday morning, Jake Carney, a north suburban 16-year-old, landed a huge coho of 14 pounds (weighed by a Boga-Grip scale) while fishing on the Confusion C4 out of Montrose Harbor. Capt. Bob Poteshman said it was caught on a smoke dodger (Size 0) with a green crinkle Howie fly near the bottom in approximately 160 feet of water.
