Weather or whatever, 2011 has been outstanding for largemouth bass fishing on local ponds. We celebrate a pair of big largemouth caught in mid-August as co-Fish of the Week.

Rico Cantu caught his from a retention pond in Will County.

‘‘I got him on a 10-inch Dean
Rojas plastic worm,’’ the Lockport man said. ‘‘I mostly fish from shore and at retentions ponds. I caught him by a drain pipe, which is my favorite structure to fish.’’

Nuggets of truth on fishing local ponds are in there.

Brian David caught his monster bass in Sugar Grove. He estimated it at 10 pounds. Not sure on that, but it’s the biggest bass submitted in 2011.
