Jeff Sahagian of Elmhurst caught his biggest Illinois largemouth bass — and one of the best of the year — Friday to earn Fish of the Week honors.
‘‘I have been bassin’ all around the suburbs for over 10 years,’’ Sahagian said. ‘‘I have never caught a fish over 18 [inches] in Illinois. [On Friday], I caught my best. It was 23 inches with an 18-inch girth. My fist, which measures 121/2 [inches] around, fit in its bucket mouth. Various Internet calculators said the bass was over 8 pounds.’’
He caught it on a black quarter-ounce spinner with a silver Colorado blade from the East Branch of the DuPage River.
