Young people doubled up on Fish of the Week from area ponds over the weekend. Jimmy DiBiase turned creative to land his big largemouth bass in the far western suburbs, according to his father’s friend Bob Petitte. After losing a bass that tried to take a bluegill, DiBiase came up with a fix. “Young Jimmy then rigged a trailer hook on the small bluegill’s tail, and the next cast caught the bass,’’ Petitte e-mailed. “The young man was ecstatic. The look on his face tells the story. This young man lives to fish and truly deserved a fish like that.” Then there’s Amanda Favia, who had only panfished previously. On her first try at bass fishing, the 16-year-old from Lansing landed a big largemouth of her own. “She caught this beautiful largemouth on a golden roach minnow in my backyard pond in New Lenox,’’ her proud uncle Jeff Spargo e-mailed. “We didn’t have a scale, but this fish would easily surpass five pounds.” Think of it as the future of fishing.
