At the end of a report on Mazonia lakes, Bill Lanham e-mailed, ‘‘The photo is of the largest pumpkinseed sunfish I have caught in our state, caught late [Friday] morning.’’
Besides seeing a Fish of the Week, I thought, ‘‘Illinois Illinois only started keeping state records on pumpkinseeds a few years ago. The state record is 10.24 ounces, caught by Pat Crumrine on Sept. 15, 2009, from Emiquon Preserve. ‘‘Ouch!’’ Lanham replied. ‘‘It was just over 9 The good news is that the Illinois-record pumpkinseed swims in the Mazonia lakes. record,’’ so I asked the south suburban man if he had weighed it.
