Tim Kuncis took a Sunday drive in the afternoon heat to Wilmington, where he stopped to cast into the wind below the dam on the Kankakee River.
“Caught this striper on a crawfish-looking Rapala,’’ e-mailed the Lockport man, who estimated it at 7 or 8 pounds before release. “Good fight. Took at least 5-10 minutes to get in, as the line kept zipping out. Very exciting, as I had a small crowd of non-fishing spectators. Never thought I would catch a striper there.’’
Drives around Illinois doubled Fish of the Week.
Earlier this month, Melton Black drove to Powerton Lake near Pekin. The Chicago man caught a 39-inch blue catfish on a sucker. The blue, which put up a 40-minute battle, weighed 41 pounds on the certified scales at Henry’s Sports & Bait.
