Saturday was a big day for brown trout on southern Lake Michigan.
Robert Buckmaster of Chesterton, Ind., caught his ‘‘beast’’ at Burns Ditch out of Portage, Ind. He was fishing a classic silver-and-red Hot ’N Tot when he landed the 34-inch brown with a girth of 27.25 inches. It weighed 16.5 pounds.
‘‘It was a monster,’’ he e-mailed. ‘‘Beautiful fish.’’
Jim Sajdyk had his beautiful moment with his grandson Trent Sajdyk when they went out of East Chicago Marina. The 13-year-old from Cedar Lake, Ind., caught his first brown, one that weighed 12 pounds, 10 ounces.
‘‘He played the fish for 10 minutes on 6-pound line,’’ Jim Sajdyk e-mailed. ‘‘I’m proud of him.’’
