This week’s field notes

Dale’s mailbag

Q: Can you please tell me when the Lake Thunderbird fishing show will be on TV? J im Kidd

A: Good question. Last summer, I had the privilege of helping tape a “Time on the Water’’ television segment on Lake Thunderbird, the man-made lake near Hennepin, with host Frank Hyla and Rich Josepher. I bumped into them last week, and they thought it would air late this winter. Otherwise, we would do another taping to catch more bass. (Good thing I have enough ego to take that shot.) The show usually airs at 10:30 a.m. Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Mondays on Comcast SportsNet.

BUCK OF WEEK: UNPLUGGED

While Ralph Greenslade was out with his oldest daughter, Jamie, and her dog, Hobart, on Wednesday in Blue Star Memorial Woods Forest Preserve in Glenview, the Sun-Timesman caught this shot of “Hobart unplugged and a few deer unplugged, too.’’ It might be my favorite BOTW: Unplugged photo of all time, even if I am not sure if the deer are bucks or does. E-mail nominations for the weekly celebration of live big bucks around Chicago outdoors to straycasts@sbcglobal.net.

STORM CLOSURES

Nearly all Illinois Department of Natural Resources sites in central and northern Illinois were closed or had partial closures after the massive midweek storm. Most looked like they would reopen by now, but check at dnr.illinois.gov and click on “Closure Notices.’’
