The fall trout season will be bigger when it opens Saturday, with new waters in Cook, McHenry and Will counties.
Nearby waters include Axehead, Belleau, Busse Woods North Lake (new), Horsetail and Wolf Lake (new) in Cook County; Silver, Pickerel and Grove in DuPage; Bird Park Quarry in Kankakee; Big Lake in Kendall; Banana and Sand Pond in Lake; Spring Grove Hatchery Pond (new) in McHenry; and Lake Strini (new) and Van Horn Woods (new) in Will.
Those 16 and older generally need a trout stamp and a fishing license. The daily bag is five.
Basic methods are light line (4-pound) with small hooks (No. 12 or smaller) or ice jigs with small baits (prepared trout baits, corn, pinch of Velveeta cheese, small
fatheads, red worms) under tiny floats.
