Shore fishermen had a hint of hope last week on southern Lake Michigan.

A few big Chinook, such as the one held by Brittany Jordan of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, made an early appearance in Trail Creek. Last year, kings didn’t show in the Indiana streams until October, Lake Michigan fisheries biologist Brian Breidert said. The biggest king weighed 19.48 pounds.
