Thursday is the hinge for fall around Chicago outdoors.
Perch fishing reopens on the Illinois waters of Lake Michigan. Hundreds will come to the Chicago lakefront. Thousands, provided the perch are in.
‘‘Hard to say,’’ said Mike Repa, a counter man at Park Bait. ‘‘Trouble is, the water temperature is the same across the lake. Fish are scattered.’’
Squirrel hunting opens in Illinois, though most wait until the canopy is down. Iroquois County State Wildlife Area is the one nearby site open for squirrel hunting in August.
‘‘With the cool weather, I expect more [hunters] than usual,’’ site tech Andy Anderson said.
