“Perchin’ at the Pier’’ will open new fishing holes at Navy Pier on Saturday.

The annual spring perch fishing derby by Henry’s Sports and Bait/Marine has a history of making history. Their perch derby on June 21, 2003 was the first public event held on Northerly Island, after the former exclusive airport was X’d out.

This derby will open the north-side wall (far end of the photo) connecting Navy Pier to Jardine Water Filtration Plan. The fishing area will extend along the north wall of Navy Pier and around the east tip.

Registration (free) begins at 6:30 a.m. The contest, with its usual prizes, will be from 7-11 a.m. At registration, permits for $5 all-day parking will be given. For more info, call (312) 225-8538 or go to
