The jumbo-perch rush is on for Indiana boaters.

A prime mover was Don Harrington of Hobart, shown with one of many 14-inchers caught Monday in 47 to 50 feet off Gary Light. Tommy Zeman of Oak Lawn had 20 longer than 14 inches in his boat.

Mike Starcevich of Mik-Lurch Fishing Tackle Outlet in Hammond said the eggs are still soft, so he figures at least 10 days of prime fishing are ahead.

‘‘Lay it on the bottom [and] use big minnows and
orange glow flies,’’ Starcevich said. ‘‘Make sure it is
orange glow because the water is still a little dingy.’’
