Jack Fiorio and Larry Kornas made Saturday special for big brown trout — from shore and boat — around East Chicago Marina in Indiana.
Fiorio was fishing with his dad, Joe, and casting a Flicker Shad when he latched into a 40-inch brown with a girth of 28 inches near the rocks
to the east.
‘‘[He] released this beast after a hard-fought battle,’’
Joe Fiorio emailed.
On shore, Kornas, a 69-year-old from St. John, Ind., landed a 25.6-pound brown, 33 inches long with a girth of 26 inches, on a jig (white twistertail) and squid.
After a hard fight, his son helped him land the fish, which broke the wood handle on the net.
