Big northern pike keep
coming this winter for ice
fishermen around Chicago.
Kevin Black caught the biggest pike Feb. 17 during the Walk on Water Charity Ice Fishing Derby on Bangs Lake in Wauconda. He was fishing a tip-up over some weeds in shallow water when the 32-inch pike ate a medium sucker at 8 a.m.
‘‘Heck of a fish for Illinois,’’ emailed Greg Regalado, who
nominated Black for FOTW.
Regalado said it was the first of three pike longer than 30 inches that day.
