Court Spain of Downers Grove was bowhunting during the peak of the rut Nov. 4 on a friend’s farm near Tiskilwa in Bureau County.
‘‘This big boy was in hot pursuit of a doe, grunting and scraping as it neared,’’ Spain emailed.
‘‘Best hunt ever and biggest buck. Deer were running
everywhere. This deer had three or four branches in his antlers when I took the shot [at] 23 to 25 yards.’’
‘‘Big boy’’ is right. The rack was 24.5 inches wide and field-scored at 167 inches.
‘‘This is my fourth year hunting with the bow,’’ Spain emailed. ‘‘It is the best thing ever.’’
