Richard Peckler caught a bonus northern pike early Friday while trying for walleye on Wolf Lake. The pike hit a chrome/blue floating Rapala worked slowly over the weeds.
‘‘Luckily I was able to land her by myself on a medium/medium-light combo,’’ emailed Peckler, who is from the Southeast Side.
The pike was 37 inches long with a girth of 15 inches and weighed 12 pounds.
‘‘She’s not a record for the lake, but she is a personal best for me,’’ he emailed. ‘‘After a few pics [and cutting my finger pretty good trying not to hurt her or drop her], she swam off like nothing even happened. Maybe I’ll get another shot at her in the upcoming years when she’s 40-plus [inches long].’’
