Fishing with a curlytail grub, Don Keller of Palatine caught a surprise Fox River monster Friday at Geneva.
‘‘Believe it or not, she was only one of 20 fish I caught that afternoon in the
100-degree heat,’’ Keller emailed. ‘‘The rest were smallmouth. To top it off, I was spooled with 6-pound NanoFil.’’
He measured the flathead, which was estimated at
23 pounds, at 36 inches, then released her.
‘‘I hope to catch up with her again when she is 50 pounds!’’ he emailed.
A 50-pound flathead on the Fox might be wishful thinking, but I understand.
