Here’s to a double celebration of Illinois muskies, north and south, far and near.
Matt Kosiewicz (above) made his first muskie a memorable one of 40 inches and 18 pounds. The Evergreen Park youth caught it
June 6 while trolling with guide Chad Cain (above, helping hold fish) on Kinkaid Lake in southern Illinois.
‘‘Matt heard the reel scream with the hook-up and expertly played the muskie to net and
eventual release with gigantic smiles on his face,’’ great uncle Bob Kosiewicz said. ‘‘I was fortunate to be witness to the birth of catch-and-release ‘Muskie Matt.’ ’’
Meanwhile, ‘‘Musky Ed’’ Potocki (below) boated a 44-inch muskie estimated at 20 pounds-plus Saturday morning at Shabbona Lake. The Westchester man caught it on a white Medessa plastic.
‘‘My good friend ‘Bass Ron’ Antinori netted the fish,’’ Potocki said. ‘‘Caught it on one of the many mid-lake rock piles, thanks to Shabbona Lake Sportsman Club and other volunteers.’’
