Two “awesome’’ FOTW, caught during prefishing for the IHSA state championship for bass fishing last week, highlight the variety of Carlyle Lake.
Working a classic black and blue jig, Zach Eldredge of Streamwood High School (with holding help from volunteer coach Mike Rubino) boated a 50-pound flathead catfish. It was so big that it forced Eldredge to ask on the YouTube video, “Is the net big enough?’’
Nichole Mara showed her catch of a huge largemouth bass during prefishing was no fluke when she weighed a 5-pound, 9-ounce largemouth — largest ever weighed by a young woman at the state tournament — on Friday to help Hinsdale Central stand 10th after Day 1.
“Please consider this awesome fish, it would mean a lot!’’ emailed Mara, who caught it working a Strike King crankbait on the rocks.
