Jake Pals, 11, had the complete turkey experience April 22 in Fulton County. Not only did he shoot his first tom while hunting from a blind with his dad, but they came across a hen on a nest (took a quick photo and kept going).
“There were four birds gobbling on the roost at first light,’’ said Jeff Pals, the deer measurer from Crete. “At about 7 a.m., we called in his bird for a well-executed 10-yard shot from our Remington youth 20 gauge. This was Jake’s first turkey after hunting for them the previous two years. We were blessed with another great father/son memory while enjoying the outdoors filled with the amazing sights and sounds of spring.’’
The tom had a 101/2-inch beard and 11/8-inch spurs.
