Jeff Nolan and Tony Klancnik of Bridgeport Bass caught largemouth by the dozens Saturday in the main stem of the Chicago River.
‘‘While the river was being dyed, Tony decided to fish, and the bass went nuts!’’ emailed Nolan (above, holding one of their typical catches). ‘‘We caught 60+ bass today to the cheers of thousands of onlookers.’’
The dye apparently spooked the bait fish, then the largemouth went into a feeding frenzy on bait corralled on the clear-water side. The largemouth hit anything: crankbaits, drop-shot rigs or jigs.
