CALGARY, Alberta — American speed skater Shani Davis, formerly of Evanston, won the men’s 1,000-meter competition Saturday at a World Cup event in Calgary, Alberta, and Glenview native Brian Hansen took third place.

Davis, 31, is a three-time Olympian who is aiming for more medals at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi

The competition Saturday featured Sa South Korea’s Lee Sang-hwa breaking her own world speedskating record in the 500 meters and the Netherlands topping its own mark in the men’s pursuit at the Olympic Oval.

Lee finished in 36.74 seconds to top the record of 36.80 she set in Calgary on Jan. 20.

The Netherlands had a time of 3:37.17, breaking the mark of 3:37.80 set in Salt Lake City in 2007.
