Tokyo, Madrid not happy either
Leaders from two nations which, like Chicago, also lost bids to host the 2016 Olympic games are lashing out.
Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara told reporters, "Tokyo's presentation was far better than the others. But invisible dynamics were at play."
Ishihara hinted that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva made ambitious promises to African IOC voters while French President Nicolas Sarkozy had pledged to support Rio if Brazil bought French-made fighter jets.
Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama's speech was much better than President Obama's because "Mr. Hatoyama's speech had substance," Ishihara told reporters.
Madrid CEO Mercedes Coghen said, "Madrid had the best technical project" and said Rio de Janeiro was selected "because it was somewhere new.''
