Local designers to create outfits for first lady, Daley, others
An Olympic team needs an Olympic uniform and local designers have pitched in to create his and hers outfits for First Lady Michelle Obama, Mayor Daley and the rest of Chicago's Olympic backers make a final bid for the 2016 Games.
Gov. Quinn, the mayor, his brother Bill Daley and the other men in the 60-member delegation will be donning gray slacks and blue blazers made by Hart Schaffner Marx, the Chicago-based suit manufacturer that outfits President Obama.
The ladies, including Michelle Obama, businesswoman Penny Pritzker and presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett, will be sporting a yet-to-be disclosed outfit by Chicago-based designer Maria Pinto.
Pinto designed the teal dress Obama wore at the Democratic nomination last August.
Both Hart Schaffner and Pinto donated their services, and Chicago 2016 picked up the tab for services.
It is customary for bid city delegations to wear official apparel to signify teamwork and cohesion, the Chicago 2016 bid team said in a statement.
