Countdown: Olympic decision 1 year away

Chicago Olympic bid officials Thursday marked the one-year countdown to the day the winner to host the 2016 Olympics will be announced -- Oct. 2, 2009 -- by handing out clocks to schoolkids.
Before the end of the year, bid chairman Pat Ryan will present the city's case to International Olympic Committee voters in Acapulco, Switzerland, Orlando, India, Bali, Kuala Lumpur, Turkey and Monaco.

Officials have estimated the privately funded bid will run $49 million. The bid group began 2 1/2 years ago with five employees; it now has a staff of 65.
