Safety Tom Zbikowski, wide receiver Devin Aromashodu and tight end Leonard Pope were the biggest names among 14 players cut by the Bears on Sunday.
The others were defensive end Kyle Moore, linebacker Patrick Trahan, running back Curtis Brinkley, defensive tackle Eric Foster, offensive tackle A.J. Lindeman, center P.J. Lonergan, safety Derrick Martin, tight end Gabe Miller, defensive tackle Brent Russell, punter Tress Way and linebacker Lawrence Wilson.
With the roster reduced from 90 to 76 players, the Bears must make one more cut by 3 p.m. Tuesday to get down to the 75-player maximum.
Zbikowski, a former Buffalo Grove and Notre Dame star, signed with the Bears as a free agent in the offseason. He spent all of training camp and the preseason behind Craig Steltz, Anthony Walters and Brandon Hardin among the reserve safeties behind starters Chris Conte and Major Wright and didn’t make a big enough impact on special teams.
Zbikowski, a five-year veteran, is among the most likely of the early cuts to attract interest from another NFL team.
Aromashodu, who played for the Bears in 2009 and ’10, had three receptions for 18 yards in the preseason.
Quarterback chatter
The Bears will practice Monday and Tuesday in preparation for their last preseason game. Neither Jay Cutler nor Josh McCown is expected to play. Jordan Palmer and Trent Edwards will handle the quarterback duties, battling for a possible No. 3 spot with Matt Blanchard, who is out indefinitely with a fractured knuckle on his left (non-throwing) hand.
