A no-win situation The Bears were going to let their play speak for themselves after turning down NBC for pregame interviews last week. They had talked and talked during a skid that saw them lose four of their previous five games and, as they explained, there wasn't much else to say.

In the Blackhawks Oct. 21 loss to the Vancouver Canucks at the United Center, Canucks' defenseman Willie Mitchell delivered a clean but hard hit on Hawks' captain Jonathan Toews, leaving Toews with a concussion that sidelined him for six games. Hawks coach Joel Quenneville didn't think the Mitchell hit would have an impact on Sunday's game.

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis held his usual news conference Sunday alone and with no news about his future employment status. Weis said he and Swarbrick have not had any such meeting. They saw each other only briefly in the locker room Saturday, after Notre Dame dropped to 6-5 with a 33-30 home loss in overtime to Connecticut (5-5).
