There are two typical ways to say goodbye to fans and a city where you played: Host a TV special and announce that you are taking your talents to South Beach or take out a full-page ad in the newspaper to thank fans.
Ray Allen took the classy route.
The new Miami Heat guard took out a full-page ad Sunday in the Boston Globe to thank Celtics fans for five years of memories from his time with the team, including the 2008 NBA title and a plethora of three-pointers.
Here’s what Allen wrote:
“Dear Celtics fans,
For the past five years, my family and I took great pride in calling Boston home. We have loved living in this city, being members of the Celtics family and being part of your community. These memories will be cherished forever.
From my heart, THANK YOU Boston for this incredible
journey.”
