When he was hired in October, Theo Epstein became Chicago’s newest rock star.
The Cubs president’s guitar skills were on display Thursday night at the Metro as part of Chicago’s first Hot Stove Cool Music concert. The show benefited Epstein’s Foundation To Be Named Later.
Smashing Pumpkin Billy Corgan appeared onstage, as did guitar-playing baseball reporter Peter Gammons. Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts, manager Dale Sveum, broadcasters Len Kasper and Bob Brenly, players David DeJesus, Shawn Camp, Reed Johnson and former Cub Kerry Wood were in the audience, the Boston Globe reported.
‘‘I love that Hot Stove is expanding to Chicago,’’ Gammons told the Boston Herald. ‘‘These franchises are so alike historically — or they were until the 2004 World Series.’’
