As a woman who stands 5-8, weighs 374 pounds and played on the offensive line in high school, Holley Mangold is no stranger to headlines. Particularly because she’s also the sister of Nick Mangold, the New York Jets’ four-time Pro Bowl center.
But her place in the sports world isn’t as an oddity, but rather an Olympian whose talent has taken a quantum leap. Mangold, 22, has won a place on the U.S. Olympic women’s weightlifting team in the super-heavyweight division.
“I always wanted to be an Olympic athlete, but I thought I’d get it for diving or gymnastics,” Mangold told the Dayton Daily News. “I wanted to be one of those girls, but my body just didn’t work out for that, so I had to go to a different sport.” Gannett News Service
