GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Wolves struck first, but the Grand Rapids Griffins got the last laugh with a 2-1 overtime victory in American Hockey League action Saturday at Van Andel Arena. The result ended the Wolves’ four-game winning streak.
After neither team scored in the first two periods, left wing Darren Archibald gave the Wolves (13-9-3-1)
a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 2:43 of the third.
Since joining the Wolves in late November from the Kalamazoo Wings of the East Coast Hockey League, Archibald has had success on the power play. His goal against the Griffins was his fifth overall and third with the man advantage.
The Griffins (16-9-1-1) tied the score on a power-play goal by Lan-
don Ferraro at 12:26 of the third. Ferraro tipped a pass from Adam Almquist past Wolves goalie Matt Climie, who made 26 saves.
The game remained tied for the rest of regulation and headed to overtime. Halfway through the extra period, Brian Lashoff took a cross-ice pass from Almquist and rocketed a shot past Climie to give the Griffins the victory.
The Wolves will break for Christmas and will return to the ice when they visit the Rockford IceHogs at
7 p.m. Thursday.
