Blackhawks goaltender Ray Emery is out with a lower body injury and will not backup Corey Crawford in Friday’s game against the Nashville Predators at the United Center. Hawks coach Joel Quenneville classified Emery as day-to-day after Thursday’s practice.
“Hopefully we’ll get him on the ice tomorrow,” Quenneville said. “He won’t be backing up tomorrow.”
Emery’s 1.91 goals-against average ranks third among goaltenders in the league. He is 16-1-0 this season and last played Monday against Dallas when he allowed two goals in a 5-2 Hawks win.
Fortunately for the Hawks, Crawford has been equally as stingy in net. He ranks fourth in the league with a goals-against average of 1.92. Sunday Crawford shutout St. Louis at home, stopping all 30 Blues shots.
The Blackhawks recalled goalie Carter Hutton from Rockford to backup Crawford Friday. Hutton practiced with the team on Thursday.
In 51 games with Rockford this season, the 27-year old Hutton has a 2.72 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.
