Luke Donald disappoints at U.S. Open

SAN FRANCISCO— It was another major disappointment for Luke Donald at the U.S. Open. The former Northwestern star is the No. 1 ranked player in the world, but hasn’t been able to translate his skills to the major championships.
The trend continue when he shot a 2-over 72 in the second round Friday. That left him 11-over after two rounds, and on the wrong side of the cut.
``That’s the one part of my golfing resume that I need to continually address and continually improve,’’ Donald said. ``I want to win one more than any of you guys know. And obviously I’ll continue to try and do that.’’
Donald, who had three birdies and three bogeys in the second round, dug a big hole with his first-round 79.
``A little better today, but little consolation,’’ Donald said. `Obviously, my troubles started yesterday. I think I missed nine putts inside 10 feet and just couldn’t get the feel for the greens, the reads, the speed. And if I had putted a little bit better yesterday I could have ground out a score today and maybe been somewhere decently placed for the weekend. But it wasn’t to be.’’
