DES MOINES — Chris Gould kicked an 18-yard field goal with 1.8 seconds left to give the Rush a 50-49 victory Saturday against the Iowa Barnstormers in Arena Football League play at Wells Fargo Arena.
‘‘I am proud of our team,’’ said Rush coach Bob McMillen, whose team rallied from a 49-41 deficit in the closing minutes. ‘‘That was a huge kick by Gould at the end of the game.’’
Russ Michna threw six touchdown passes for the Rush (4-1), four to Reggie Gray and two to Charles Dillon. Gray, who had 121 yards receiving, had his first three scoring catches in the second quarter and his last in the fourth. The last one pulled the Rush to 49-47 and put it in position to win on Gould’s late field goal.
Fullback Marcus Waugh added a one-yard touchdown run for the Rush.
Brad Banks threw seven touchdown passes to Jesse Schmidt for the Barnstormers (2-3). Schmidt’s seven scoring catches, three of which came in the first quarter, set a franchise record.
The Rush will return home to take on the Kansas City Command (1-4) at 7 p.m. Friday at Allstate Arena.
