FIRST QUARTER

KEY PLAYER

Matt Forte, Bears RB: Did what he does best — finding a way to be effective. Stuffed in the run game (3 carries, 0 yards), Forte caught a 23-yard pass from Jay Cutler, then turned a screen pass into a 56-yard touchdown for a 10-3 lead.

KEY STAT

145.1 With the Bears rushing for minus-2 yards, Jay Cutler was 8-for-11 for 147 yards and a TD for a 145.1 rating.

DID YOU NOTICE?

Charles Tillman gave the Bears their first takeaway when he forced a Michael Turner fumble that Julius Peppers recovered.

QUARTER 2

KEY PLAYER

Jay Cutler, Bears QB: Kept drives alive with key third-down passes, allowing Bears to dominate time of possession, 9:35-5:25. He was 16-for-21, 222 yards, 125.5 rating.

KEY STAT

54 Total yards for Falcons on 13 plays in the quarter. Henry Melton had a sack for an eight-yard loss on third-and-five.

QUARTER 3

KEY PLAYER

Devin Hester, Bears WR: Aided by a downfield block by Roy Williams, he turned a WR screen into a 53-yard gain to the Falcons’ 1-yard line that set up Matt Spaeth’s TD catch for a 23-6 lead, putting the Falcons in desperation mode.

KEY STAT

154-92 Helped by Michael Turner’s 53-yard run, the Falcons outgained the Bears by 62 yards in the quarter but were outscored 14-3.

After he caught his touchdown pass, tight end Matt Spaeth ran to the stands to give the ball to his aunt.

QUARTER 4

KEY PLAYER

Henry Melton, Bears DT: After Kory Bierman’s 50-yard interception return, Melton snuffed out any hopes for a Falcons miracle finish by sacking Matt Ryan for a 10-yard loss, his second sack to go with seven hurries.

KEY STAT

77.1 Ryan, who has burned the Bears before, was unable to ignite a comeback. He was 7-for-13 for 94 yards with a 77.1 rating in the quarter.

DID YOU NOTICE?

Roy Williams, who had four catches for 55 yards, went to the bench with a groin injury.
