Chris Harris is an admitted Twitterholic, so he embraced a proposal from the Sun-Times to spend a chunk of his day off using Twitter to engage with his fans.
In five hours Tuesday, Harris stopped at six locations in Chicago and the north suburbs.
Zipcar Chicago provided us with transportation, but with rain drenching the city, Harris and I decided to scrap our plan of heading to “The Bean.” Instead, we visited with fans at the Harold Washington Library.
Note Sangern stopped by on his lunch break.
“I just happened to be looking at my Twitter feed,” Sangern said.
Next up, lunch
Our next stop was Sidebar Grille for lunch with two fans. Derrick Thomas and Joy Logan are regulars at Sidebar, and they chatted with Harris, even discussing their favorite episodes of the HBO comedy “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” “It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Thomas said.
After a stop at a Garrett Popcorn shop in the Merchandise Mart, Harris headed north to Athans Luxury Motors in Morton Grove to test-drive a supercharged Audi S6 with John Spiropoulos. Then he headed to Dick’s Sporting Goods in Niles, signing autographs for about 40 people before finishing his day at the nearby Brunswick Zone.
Upon arrival, he was greeted by Bill Skinner, who was waiting with three boys. Harris bowled with Skinner’s son, Liam, and two neighbors.
“It’s just cool,” said Adam Lube, who met Harris at Dick’s and got an autograph. “These guys are normal people.”
