DENVER — An auction house says former Colorado running back and Heisman Trophy winner Rashaan Salaam’s Heisman ring has sold for $8,140, plus a 20 percent buyer’s premium.
Nate D. Sanders Auctions says bidding reached $10,835 before the auction closed Tuesday evening but didn’t reach the $15,000 reserve. Nate Sanders says the company then backtracked to find a buyer. The ring has several diamonds but was missing one.
The former Chicago Bears running back didn’t return a phone message seeking comment.
He played for Colorado from 1992 to 1994. Salaam rushed for a school record 2,055 yards as a junior to win the Heisman in 1994.
The Chicago Bears made him a first-round draft pick, and he had 1,074 rushing yards in his rookie season before encountering problems with injuries.
